Happy Friday. My brain is fried and I don’t think I’ve had a coherent thought in days. That’s a bad thing for anyone, but for a writer it’s catastrophic. Writers are story tellers and story tellers are creative. What happens when the creativity dries up and there’s no inspiration to be found?
Write to Done has a great post on how to have ideas. Check out their seven steps to creativity and tell me: How do you inspire creativity?
I don't. If I have nothing in me, I don't force it. I either do housework or yard work or some sort of physical labor. That usually allows me to find the creative again. If I still don't, I don't force it. I wait. Lightening usually strikes at 3 in the morning and then I'm up for the rest of the night writing.
ReplyDeleteI don't inspire it - it just flies out at the most random of times! Seriously! I wish it had a nozzle so I could turn it off. It can be pretty overwhelming at times. Oh, I don't mind though...I'm just waiting on the day for the ball to drop and my nozzle to shut off on it's own...never to trickle again. Eek!

Thanks for the link- lots of great advice there. As for creativity- if I'm not actively creating, my mind is in constant imagination mode, no matter where I am.
ReplyDeleteI used to try and force myself to write, now if I'm not feeling it I don't write. It might not be what everyone's advice is but I don't want to push what I love, I just want to enjoy doing it. Besides if I push it I end up just writing something awful and end up deleting when the ideas start to come back! LOL
ReplyDeleteI just followed the Write to Done link. Thank you for posting it. I copied some excellent ideas from it.
ReplyDeleteAs everyone above has said, don't force it. Relax. Do something you enjoy. The ideas are there. They may strike in the middle of the night, as Anne says. That sometimes happens to me, too.
Loved the link. That's exactly how I get ideas for books. It's amazing what you can come up with just by wandering around, looking at magazines, listening to kids and teens.
ReplyDeleteToday's WTD post is on Warren Buffet. I just sent it to my husband. He worships the guy. Hmmm. Maybe my husband will be so happy to see the article, he won't notice if I don't clean the bathrooms today. Maybe I can write instead. :D
Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the link. I've had a long creative drought for the last 6 or so months so hopefully I can get some ideas there. I also think I actually might have a health issue that's affecting my ability to concentrate. Believe it or not, that was a good thing to hear because, if it's true, it's also something that can be solved.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend, all.
TGIF, indeed!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Sistah!
My brain and body is fried too. I'm a jelly fish. A brainless jellyfish. Done. Put a fork in me.
I left you a little love on my blog today...but, as always, it's a no pressure thing. You don't have to do anything with it.
Just know you're loved.
Happy Weekend, SJS!
Love,
Lola
I inspire my creativity by reading good books and look at art. Also, going to the movies seems to remind me of what I am: a story teller!
ReplyDeleteI am out of creativity right now!
ReplyDeleteThat link has a great list of ideas -- thanks. If I'm not feeling creative, I just walk away. I can't force myself, or my writing comes out horrible. Hope your brain is un-fried soon! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteTaking a walk always frees my mind so I can come up with some creative ideas or figure out a writing problem I've been struggling with.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Beats me how to channel creativity. I wish I could bottle it like Harry Potter's liquid luck. I hope you get some inspiration soon.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's good to step away and take a break. Hopefully the weekend will give you the space you need. Or failing that, drink some wine?
ReplyDeleteI inspire creativity by coming off the internet, turning down the stereo, slipping into some comfy clothes, giving my three dogs a hug, then scrambling into my little loft. My hideaway from the rest of the world.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I have to agree with Talli Roland, a glass or two of good red wine is often helpful :)
