Happy Hump Day

Whether it’s Wednesday or the muddle in the middle that we’re slogging through as writers, we all know that feeling of burnout. We see it all around us here in the blogosphere, feel it in the crush of real life. Copyblogger has a great post here you should check out and then tell me:

Do you take time for yourself? Book time for yourself? How?

  1. I'm trying to get time for myself. I need some reading time--I'll work on that.
    Happy Wednesday!

  2. What is that? Time for myself. I barely have time to take a shower every day.

  3. Happy Hump Day!!! I try and take time for myself but sometimes I don't remember what that looks like!! Suppose it's something I need to work on, it has been about a week since I've last picked up a book just for me maybe I should do that tonight!!

  4. My writing time is time for myself. I don't consider it to be work. :)

  5. I have lots of time for myself - no kids or pets:) In my wind down time, I mostly watch stupid tv-shows or read a book, just to take my mind off things:)

  6. I wish I had more time for myself. There are just times when the burnout hits full force and everything stops. Writing, blogging, everything. Just me time. Sometimes it's short, sometimes it long, but it happens. If there were more hours in the day I don't think I would have this problem.

  7. I take time for myself to read and write. I do it during the day when my kids are working on assignments.

  8. Interesting topic. I'm a stay-at-home mom and taking time was ROUGH for the first couple of years. But my son is four now. He likes reading & likes Mario Kart. And I feel less guilty about getting sitters. So there's more quiet in the house now. For the first time in a few years, I do feel like I'm getting that time to myself back. It's wonderful.

  9. When I fit writing into my schedule, that's the me time. I am conflicted about it everyday, but I feel like I'm giving up if I don't do it. Love the picture at the top of your blog. It's so beautiful and mysterious. I want to walk down that road.

  10. Ahhh...I just took some time for myself by finishing the book I'm reading. It was great. Although, now I need a new book! The only time I have for myself is when I climb into bed at night. Even when I'm writing, I'm still walking back and forth from my desk to the playroom every five minutes. Thank goodness for bedtime!

  11. Basketball... get too tired to think about anything else, which is nice.

  12. Some time reserved just for us should be law-enforced... :)

I'm among the lucky ones - no kids, no pets, and yet sometimes setting time aside seems a struggle.
But when I'm doing something I enjoy, be it reading, listening to music (I can combine these two!) or sitting in front of my monitor, I know this time is mine. And it feels good.

  13. Writing is time to myself so my reading time has been dwindling recently. I now read just before bed because it helps this semi-professional insomniac sleep sometimes ;~)

  14. I'm learning to say no, slow down and take time for myself. If I don't, I struggle with focusing on my writing.

    Still searching for that balance.

Thank you for your kind commment!

  15. The time I take for myself is just living.

  16. I think finding inner peace would help me with finding some real time for myself that doesn't involve watching TV....

  17. Time is a really hard thing. I feel like I never have enough. I do read, I just have to, and I'm sure you're like that too. I usually read while I'm eating lunch or before bed, or if i really need to escape for a few minutes I sneak it in then too :)

  18. Life has been so crazy lately, on Monday I just rebelled and baked four batches of banana muffins (lots of old bananas sitting around) and a batch of chocolate chip cookies. I should have been doing other things, but it sure felt good to take time out and do what I wanted - good old "me" time!

  19. I force it sometimes; then feel guilty about not getting all the writing done. I'd love to be able to sit home and write all the time, but bills must be paid too.

  20. Achieving balance is always a struggle, and what constitutes as balance is always evolving.

I've taken Stephen King's advice to always have a book with me, so I can get five-minutes in while I'm standing in line at the bank or anywhere I'm stuck.

I try to blog during sub breaks and when my kids are in after school lessons, since I'm there anyway.

Chores, writing - it all depends on the day.

  21. Time for myself is sometimes hard to come by but I usually try to spend time reading a couple of times a week or watch a movie. I live alone so I could just ignore everyone and everything if I really needed to...well, almost everyone. The Man would be very worried if I just fell off the face of the earth for a while.
